Dear Friends , Clients & Colleagues: This month, I once again politely declined an unsolicited offer to join the " Million Dollar Verdicts Club" . The lawyer sponsoring the Club wrote to me that I was one of only 3,000 attorneys nationwide to qualify for the Club, which only consists of lawyers who have won million dollar jury verdicts for injured clients . My experience in courtrooms qualifies me to join and the fee to join the Club was modest, so why did I decline?

One reason is that the " Club" does not involve any legal learning, exchange of ideas, or meetings to do this, which would be--- to my way of thinking--- the only reason to join such a "Club". . But the main reason I declined is that it sends the wrong message to both my clients and potential clients. Every case is not worth a million dollars and I do not restrict my practice to only those cases worth such a lofty amount. Secondly, while money is often the measure of justice in our country, the key is really whether the amount offeree by an insurance carrier is adequate for the harms inflicted in every individual case, given the risks inherent in the legal system. In other words, what really counts is the value to the client, not the potential glory to the lawyer. And that's where my expertise & that of my firm lies: in determining the appropriate amount of compensation given the facts and applicable law in every individual case --in weighing the amount of the offer in view of the risks and the time value of money in a recessionary economy.

If we can help you , your family member and friends in obtaining a fair and adequate offer for injuries and attendant losses caused by negligence , and in providing advice regarding whether to accept an offer in light of the risks inherent in any trial, I would be glad to bring my professional experience in this regard to bear on the analysis required. And then if the offer is inadequate, its also nice to know that the lawyer handling the case in court was qualified to join the Million Dollar Verdict Club, but even more comforting to know he turned the invitation down.
